Vakantiekaarten voor het gezin
How to send a group holiday card when your family lives abroad
When relatives live in different countries, the difficult part is not postage—it is gathering everyone's voice. A shared digital card gives each household time to contribute in the language and format that feels natural.
Thoughtful group cards, made easier
Plan rond mensen, niet postcodes
Choose one recipient or household, one organiser and a delivery date. Start seven to ten days ahead if relatives span several countries; family messages often arrive around work, school and caregiving rather than office deadlines.
- List the relatives and family friends who should be included
- Choose a private channel the recipient will not see
- Write the deadline with a date, time zone and local equivalent
- Ask for photos in their original quality where possible
- Decide whether to deliver digitally or add a printed QR note
Give every generation an easy prompt
An open request—“write something”—can feel surprisingly hard. Offer a choice: a favourite memory from the year, one thing they are grateful for, a wish for next year, a family photo or a ten-second video greeting.
Children can draw a picture for an adult to photograph. Older relatives can dictate a message to someone they trust. The goal is not identical posts; it is to preserve each person's voice.
Let people write in the language that carries the feeling
Do not force the whole family into one language for neatness. A grandparent may understand a translated note but feel the original more deeply. Encourage contributors to write naturally and add a translation underneath when useful.
Turn digital delivery into a family moment
- Schedule for the recipient's local time.Morning delivery gives them space to read before calls and celebrations begin.
- Open samen alleen als ze het leuk zouden vinden.Share screens on a family call, or let them explore privately and talk afterwards.
- Add something physical if you wish.Druk een klein briefje of foto af met een QR-code en voeg deze toe aan een pakket of bloemen.
- Keep contributions open a little longer.International families are busy; a late message can still be meaningful after the official reveal.
Bescherm familiefoto's en privégegevens
Share the signing link directly rather than posting it publicly. Ask before including children's faces, home addresses, travel dates or health news. If a photo belongs to someone else, confirm they are comfortable with it appearing in the card.
A holiday card should connect the family, not create pressure to disclose. Relatives who prefer not to share a photo can always add a short text message instead.
